Frequently Asked Questions about Buckwheat Extract
What is Buckwheat (Fagopyrum esculentum) seed extract?
Buckwheat is a liquid extract of the dried sprouting seed of Fagopyrum esculentum, the common buckwheat, a plant of the Polygonaceae family. Despite the name it is not a wheat or a grass but a pseudocereal, whose seeds are eaten worldwide as groats and flour and are naturally rich in a flavonoid called rutin. This alcohol-free version is a vegetable-glycerin glycerite, cold-macerated from seed responsibly sourced and prepared in the USA. Because buckwheat can be a strong allergen, please read the safety notes below.
What is the difference between the alcohol-free and tincture versions?
Both are liquid extracts of the same Buckwheat seed; only the solvent differs. This alcohol-free version is a glycerite made with vegetable glycerin and purified water, giving it a mild taste that suits those who prefer to avoid alcohol. The tincture uses organic alcohol, the classic cold-maceration method that yields a more concentrated extract. The botanical inside is identical.
How is Buckwheat seed different from Buckwheat hulls or Jin Qiao Mai?
Our Buckwheat Seed and our Buckwheat Hulls are the same plant, Fagopyrum esculentum, but different parts - this is the seed (the hulls card uses the older botanical name Polygonum fagopyrum for the same plant). Jin Qiao Mai is a different species, Fagopyrum dibotrys (golden buckwheat), and its rhizome is used. We label each by its botanical name and part.
How do I use Buckwheat seed liquid extract?
Shake well first. A typical amount is about 20 to 30 drops (approximately 1 ml) in 2 oz of water, tea or juice, up to a few times a day, or as directed by your healthcare practitioner. This alcohol-free glycerite has a mild taste. Do not exceed the suggested serving.

During pregnancy and nursing, ordinary food amounts are one thing, but for a concentrated extract consult a qualified healthcare practitioner first. If you take any medication or have a medical condition, consult a qualified healthcare practitioner before use. Keep out of reach of children.
