Arteries Support Tincture
This is an alcohol-based liquid extract (tincture) of three herbs extracted together in equal parts: the red berry of the hedgerow hawthorn, the kitchen garlic bulb and the silvery leaf of the olive tree. Each is also sold on its own. It is a traditional herbal product that interacts with heart and blood-pressure medicines and is not a replacement for any prescribed treatment - please read the safety information below before use.
- Hawthorn, berry - Crataegus laevigata berry (Rosaceae)
- Garlic, bulb - Allium sativum bulb (Amaryllidaceae)
- Olive, leaf - Olea europaea leaf (Oleaceae)
- Extract type: Alcohol tincture. Other ingredients: organic alcohol, vegetable glycerin, crystal clear purified water
- Origin: Responsibly sourced cultivated botanicals (hawthorn from Bulgaria, garlic from India, olive leaf from Turkey). Gluten free. Made in the USA.
What is in the blend
- Hawthorn berry - the small red autumn fruit of a thorny tree of European hedgerows; the berry is used here, while the leaf and flower are a separate preparation used in other blends.
- Garlic bulb - the dried bulb of Allium sativum, the same species as culinary garlic; its pungent sulfur compounds are what you smell when a clove is crushed.
- Olive leaf - the narrow, leathery, gray-green leaf of the Mediterranean olive tree, the same tree that gives olives and olive oil; the leaf has a distinctly bitter taste.
Why a tincture
The three dried herbs are macerated together in organic alcohol with a little vegetable glycerin and water - the classic herbal method. A tincture keeps for years at room temperature in a cool, dark place, has a bitter, pungent taste in which the garlic is clearly present, and a few drops disappear in a glass of water or juice. A serving of 20 to 30 drops is roughly 1 ml of liquid, so the amount of alcohol per serving is small.
How to use
Shake well before use. Put the number of drops shown on the label into a little water or juice and drink it, up to the frequency shown on the label. Do not exceed the label serving. If you take any medication, take this blend at least two hours apart from it. Store in a cool, dark place with the cap tight.
Tincture or drops?
If you avoid alcohol or prefer a milder taste, the same three-herb blend is available as Arteries Support Alcohol-Free Drops - the glycerite version. The herbs and proportions are identical; only the extraction liquid differs. Our Cholesterol Formula Tincture is a related blend of hawthorn berry, olive leaf and psyllium husk.
Important safety information - please read before use
All three herbs in this blend interact with heart, blood-pressure or blood-thinning medicines. Please read before use.
- Not a substitute for treatment: this is an herbal product. If you have been diagnosed with high blood pressure, a heart condition or any cardiovascular problem, use it only with your doctor, and never stop or change prescribed medication on your own.
- Heart and blood-pressure medication: hawthorn can interact with digoxin, beta-blockers, nitrates, calcium-channel blockers and antihypertensives, and garlic and olive leaf may add to the effect of blood-pressure medicines. Do not use with any of them without your doctor.
- Blood thinners and surgery: garlic may slow blood clotting. Do not combine with warfarin, aspirin, clopidogrel or other anticoagulant or antiplatelet drugs without your doctor. Stop use at least two weeks before surgery.
- Pregnancy / nursing: do not use.
- Blood sugar: garlic and olive leaf may lower blood sugar - monitor if you take diabetes medication.
- HIV medicines: garlic can reduce the effect of some HIV medicines such as saquinavir.
- Allergies: do not use if you are allergic to garlic or onions (Allium), or to olive-family (Oleaceae) plants such as olive, ash, jasmine or privet; hawthorn is a rose-family (Rosaceae) plant.
- Age: not for children.
- Contains alcohol. If you have a medical condition or take medication, consult a qualified healthcare practitioner before use. Do not use it to self-treat any medical condition - see a qualified doctor instead. Keep out of reach of children.
