Arteries Support Alcohol-Free Drops

This is an alcohol-free liquid extract (glycerite) of three herbs extracted together in equal parts: the red berry of the hedgerow hawthorn, the kitchen garlic bulb and the silvery leaf of the olive tree. Each is also sold on its own. It is a traditional herbal product that interacts with heart and blood-pressure medicines and is not a replacement for any prescribed treatment - please read the safety information below before use.

  • Hawthorn, berry - Crataegus laevigata berry (Rosaceae)
  • Garlic, bulb - Allium sativum bulb (Amaryllidaceae)
  • Olive, leaf - Olea europaea leaf (Oleaceae)
  • Extract type: Alcohol-free glycerite - liquid drops. Other ingredients: vegetable glycerin, purified water
  • Origin: Responsibly sourced cultivated botanicals (hawthorn from Bulgaria, garlic from India, olive leaf from Turkey). Gluten free. Made in the USA.

What is in the blend

  • Hawthorn berry - the small red autumn fruit of a thorny tree of European hedgerows; the berry is used here, while the leaf and flower are a separate preparation used in other blends.
  • Garlic bulb - the dried bulb of Allium sativum, the same species as culinary garlic; its pungent sulfur compounds are what you smell when a clove is crushed.
  • Olive leaf - the narrow, leathery, gray-green leaf of the Mediterranean olive tree, the same tree that gives olives and olive oil; the leaf has a distinctly bitter taste.

Why the alcohol-free drops

The three dried herbs are extracted together in vegetable glycerin and purified water, so there is no ethanol in the bottle - the version to choose if you avoid alcohol. Glycerin gives the drops a mild, naturally sweet taste that softens the pungency of garlic and the bitterness of olive leaf.

What is a glycerite?

A glycerite is a liquid herbal extract made with vegetable glycerin instead of alcohol. Glycerin is a clear, naturally sweet liquid from plant oils; it extracts and preserves the water-soluble parts of the herbs. Because glycerin is a weaker preservative than alcohol, keep the bottle refrigerated after opening. The glycerin and water percentages are printed on the label.

How to use

Shake well before use. Put the number of drops shown on the label into a little water, juice or tea and drink it, up to the frequency shown on the label. Do not exceed the label serving. If you take any medication, take this blend at least two hours apart from it. Refrigerate after opening and use within the period printed on the label.

Drops or tincture?

If you prefer the classic alcohol-based extract with the longest shelf life at room temperature, the same three-herb blend is available as Arteries Support Tincture - the alcohol-based version. The herbs and proportions are identical; only the extraction liquid differs. Our Cholesterol Formula Alcohol-Free Drops is a related blend of hawthorn berry, olive leaf and psyllium husk.

Important safety information - please read before use

All three herbs in this blend interact with heart, blood-pressure or blood-thinning medicines. Please read before use.

  • Not a substitute for treatment: this is an herbal product. If you have been diagnosed with high blood pressure, a heart condition or any cardiovascular problem, use it only with your doctor, and never stop or change prescribed medication on your own.
  • Heart and blood-pressure medication: hawthorn can interact with digoxin, beta-blockers, nitrates, calcium-channel blockers and antihypertensives, and garlic and olive leaf may add to the effect of blood-pressure medicines. Do not use with any of them without your doctor.
  • Blood thinners and surgery: garlic may slow blood clotting. Do not combine with warfarin, aspirin, clopidogrel or other anticoagulant or antiplatelet drugs without your doctor. Stop use at least two weeks before surgery.
  • Pregnancy / nursing: do not use.
  • Blood sugar: garlic and olive leaf may lower blood sugar - monitor if you take diabetes medication.
  • HIV medicines: garlic can reduce the effect of some HIV medicines such as saquinavir.
  • Allergies: do not use if you are allergic to garlic or onions (Allium), or to olive-family (Oleaceae) plants such as olive, ash, jasmine or privet; hawthorn is a rose-family (Rosaceae) plant.
  • Age: not for children.
  • If you have a medical condition or take medication, consult a qualified healthcare practitioner before use. Do not use it to self-treat any medical condition - see a qualified doctor instead. Keep out of reach of children.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is Arteries Support Alcohol-Free Drops?
Arteries Support is a three-herb liquid blend: hawthorn berry (Crataegus laevigata), garlic bulb (Allium sativum) and olive leaf (Olea europaea), extracted together in equal parts in vegetable glycerin and purified water, with no alcohol. Hawthorn is the thorny hedgerow tree of Europe, used here as the red berry; garlic the familiar kitchen bulb; and olive leaf the silvery leaf of the Mediterranean olive tree. Each is also sold on its own. It is an herbal glycerite, not a capsule. It is a botanical product and is not intended to diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any disease. Please read the safety note below - this blend interacts with heart and blood-pressure medicines and is not a replacement for any prescribed treatment.
What is the difference between the alcohol-free drops and the tincture?
Both contain the same three herbs in the same proportions; only the extraction liquid differs. These drops are a glycerite made with vegetable glycerin and purified water - no alcohol, a milder and naturally sweet taste that softens the pungency of garlic and the bitterness of olive leaf, best kept refrigerated after opening. The tincture uses organic alcohol with vegetable glycerin and water, the classic method with the longest shelf life at room temperature. Choose whichever suits you; the safety notes apply to both.
Is this hawthorn berry or hawthorn leaf? How is Arteries Support different from Cholesterol Formula and Heart Support?
This blend uses the hawthorn berry, the red autumn fruit; hawthorn leaf and flower are a separate preparation of the same tree, used in our Strong Heart and Blood Pressure Support blends. Cholesterol Formula shares the hawthorn berry and olive leaf but adds psyllium husk instead of garlic, and Heart Support is garlic and reishi only. The olive here is the leaf, not the fruit or the oil, and garlic is the dried bulb of the same species as culinary garlic. All three herbs are also available as single extracts.

If you take any medication, take this blend at least two hours apart from it. Refrigerate after opening and use within the period printed on the label. Keep out of reach of children.
