Frequently Asked Questions about Cinnamon Extract
What is Ceylon Cinnamon tincture used for?
Ceylon Cinnamon tincture is a dietary supplement prepared from the dried inner bark of Cinnamomum verum, an evergreen tree of the family Lauraceae native to Sri Lanka and the southwestern coastal regions of India. Cinnamomum verum is the botanical source of true cinnamon - distinguished from the more widely traded Chinese cinnamon (Cinnamomum cassia) by its finer, multi-layered quills, lighter tan color, more delicate fragrance, and distinctly different constituent profile. The inner bark contains cinnamaldehyde as the dominant volatile compound, alongside eugenol, trans-cinnamic acid, linalool, beta-caryophyllene, and condensed proanthocyanidins. HawaiiPharm's concentrated tincture captures these naturally occurring constituents from dried bark using alcohol, vegetable glycerin, and purified water as the extraction medium. Each batch undergoes FTIR and HPTLC spectral analysis, microbiological testing, and organoleptic evaluation to confirm botanical identity, purity, and quality. As a dietary supplement, Ceylon Cinnamon tincture supports general wellness. These statements have not been evaluated by the FDA. This product is not intended to diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any disease.
What is the difference between Ceylon Cinnamon tincture and glycerite?
HawaiiPharm offers Ceylon Cinnamon in two liquid formats. The Ceylon Cinnamon Tincture uses food-grade alcohol as the primary solvent, the traditional method of herbal liquid extraction. The Ceylon Cinnamon Glycerite is an alcohol-free alternative using vegetable glycerin and purified water as solvents. Both formats are prepared from the same Cinnamomum verum dried bark and manufactured in HawaiiPharm's FDA-registered Hawaii facility with identity and purity testing on each batch.
What is the botanical and historical background of Cinnamomum verum?
Cinnamomum verum is an evergreen tree of the Lauraceae family - the laurel family, which also includes bay laurel (Laurus nobilis), avocado (Persea americana), and sassafras - native to Sri Lanka, which was historically known as Ceylon, giving rise to the common name Ceylon cinnamon. The genus name Cinnamomum derives through Latin from the Greek kinnamomon, itself tracing back through Phoenician and Hebrew qinnamon to a Southeast Asian source word. Cinnamon has been traded for at least 4,000 years; ancient Egyptians imported it as a luxury spice, and it appears in records of the ancient Mediterranean trade networks under names suggesting its distant origin. In the medieval European spice trade, Ceylon cinnamon was among the most valuable commodities in the world. The Portuguese established the first direct European presence in Ceylon in 1518 and controlled the cinnamon trade until the Dutch East India Company (VOC) displaced them in 1658; the Dutch subsequently maintained a near-monopoly on Ceylon cinnamon for over a century. The true cinnamon quill (C. verum) is formed by rolling multiple thin layers of inner bark into a fine, tan-colored cylinder; this distinguishes it visually and texturally from C. cassia, which forms a single thicker, darker roll. Linnaeus described the species as C. zeylanicum in 1767; it was later synonymized to C. verum under botanical nomenclature rules.
How do I use Ceylon Cinnamon liquid extract?
Adults: take 20-30 drops (approximately 1 ml, one full squeeze of the dropper bulb) in 2 oz of water, juice, or tea, up to four times daily or as directed by a qualified healthcare practitioner. Shake well before each use. Store in a cool, dark place away from direct sunlight. Consult a healthcare professional before use if you are pregnant, nursing, taking prescription medications, or managing an existing health condition. Keep out of reach of children. Do not exceed the suggested serving size.
Are there any precautions for using Ceylon Cinnamon supplement?
Ceylon Cinnamon extract is derived from the dried inner bark of Cinnamomum verum. Cinnamaldehyde, the principal volatile constituent of cinnamon bark, is a known contact sensitizer at elevated concentrations; individuals with known sensitivity to cinnamon, cinnamaldehyde, or other members of the Lauraceae family (including bay laurel, sassafras, and avocado) should use this supplement with caution. Some individuals may experience mild gastrointestinal discomfort from concentrated cinnamon bark extracts; if GI discomfort occurs, reduce the serving size or discontinue use. Pregnant or nursing individuals should consult a qualified healthcare professional before use, as the safety of concentrated Cinnamomum verum bark extract during pregnancy has not been established. Consult a healthcare practitioner before use if you are taking any prescription medications or managing an existing health condition. Do not exceed the suggested serving size. These statements have not been evaluated by the Food and Drug Administration. This product is not intended to diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any disease.

ETHICALLY SOURCED, NATURAL INGREDIENTS

Our Cinnamon (Cinnamomum Verum) Bark is selected from regions with optimal growing conditions to support a high concentration of active constituents. We work only with trusted suppliers and focus on sourcing clean, well-preserved botanical material suitable for high-quality liquid extraction.

As a solvent, we use alcohol to preserve the integrity of the extract and support a clean extraction process.
To verify botanical identity and ensure consistency, all raw materials are tested in our laboratory using established analytical techniques. These include High-Performance Thin-Layer Chromatography (HPTLC) for plant authentication and fingerprinting, or Fourier-Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR) and other in-house methods. Our approach is guided by relevant standards such as those of the USP and Ph. Eur., ISO 17025 and cGLP, allowing us to maintain rigorous quality control, ensuring the material meets our specifications for identity, purity and composition.

METICULOUS EXTRACT PREPARATION

Hawaii Pharm determines the optimal herb-to-menstruum ratio for each botanical. For alcohol-based extracts, we use a carefully balanced alcohol blend to ensure maximum extraction of active compounds while preserving the plant's natural integrity.
Our master herbalists analyze each batch and adjust extraction parameters as needed, ensuring consistent quality despite natural variations in botanical sources.
The result is a potent, stable liquid extract that captures the full spectrum of the botanical's benefits.

COMPREHENSIVE LABORATORY TESTING

Every batch undergoes multiple quality assurance tests including:
  • Organoleptic evaluation (color, consistency, aroma)
  • FTIR and/or HPTLC spectral analysis for identity confirmation
