Energall Tincture

This is an alcohol-based liquid extract (tincture) of seven botanical ingredients extracted together: two roots of the ginseng family, the leaf and the seed of the ginkgo tree, a tropical leaf, and two caffeine-bearing seeds from South America and West Africa. Each is also sold on its own. This blend contains caffeine and ginkgo seed and is for adults only - please read the safety information below before use.

What is in the blend

  • Eleuthero - a thorny shrub of the Siberian and northeast Asian forests, sometimes called Siberian ginseng although it is a different plant from Panax ginseng; the root is used.
  • Red ginseng - the root of Asian ginseng steamed and dried by the traditional Korean method, which turns it reddish-brown.
  • Ginkgo leaf and seed - two parts of the same ancient tree. The fan-shaped leaf is the familiar herbal part; the seed, eaten in small amounts in East Asian cooking, has a different chemistry and is the reason this blend is for adults only.
  • Gotu kola - a small creeping plant of wet tropical ground with round scalloped leaves; unrelated to kola nut and caffeine-free.
  • Guarana - the seed of an Amazonian climbing vine, one of the richest natural sources of caffeine, traditionally roasted and ground by the peoples of the Brazilian Amazon.
  • Kola nut - the caffeine-bearing seed of a West African tree, chewed traditionally and once the flavoring of the original cola drinks.

Why a tincture

The seven dried ingredients are macerated together in organic alcohol with a little vegetable glycerin and water - the classic herbal method. A tincture keeps for years at room temperature in a cool, dark place, has a bitter, earthy taste, and a few drops disappear in a glass of water or juice. A serving of 20 to 30 drops is roughly 1 ml of liquid, so the amount of alcohol per serving is small.

How to use

Adults only. Shake well before use. Put the number of drops shown on the label into a little water or juice and drink it, up to the frequency shown on the label. Do not exceed the label serving. Because the blend contains caffeine and other stimulating herbs, take it in the morning or early afternoon, and do not combine it with coffee, tea, energy drinks or other caffeine or stimulant products. Do not use it for more than a few weeks at a time without talking to your practitioner. Store in a cool, dark place with the cap tight.

Tincture or drops?

If you avoid alcohol or prefer a milder taste, the same seven-ingredient blend is available as Energall Alcohol-Free Drops - the glycerite version. The ingredients and proportions are identical; only the extraction liquid differs.

Important safety information - please read before use

This blend contains caffeine (guarana, kola nut) and ginkgo seed. It is for adults only and is not suitable for everyone. Please read before use.

  • Caffeine: guarana and kola nut contain caffeine, which can raise heart rate and blood pressure and cause palpitations, restlessness, sleeplessness or anxiety. Do not use if you have heart disease, high blood pressure, an irregular heartbeat, an anxiety disorder or caffeine sensitivity. Do not combine with coffee, energy drinks, other caffeine sources or stimulant products or medicines.
  • Ginkgo seed: contains ginkgotoxin, which in excess can cause vomiting and seizures. Do not exceed the label serving. Do not give to children. Do not use if you have epilepsy or a seizure disorder.
  • Bleeding: ginkgo may slow blood clotting, while ginseng may reduce the effect of warfarin. Consult your doctor if you take any blood thinner or antiplatelet drug, and stop use at least two weeks before surgery or dental work.
  • Pregnancy / nursing: do not use.
  • Blood pressure and heart medication: eleuthero, ginseng and caffeine may raise blood pressure; eleuthero may interact with digoxin and other heart medicines.
  • Liver: rare cases of liver injury have been reported with gotu kola. Stop and see a doctor if you notice yellowing of the skin or eyes, dark urine or unusual fatigue.
  • Blood sugar: ginseng may lower blood sugar - monitor if you take diabetes medication.
  • Antidepressants: do not combine with MAOI antidepressants such as phenelzine.
  • Hormone-sensitive conditions: ginseng has estrogen-like activity - avoid if you have or have had a hormone-sensitive condition.
  • Allergies: ginkgo seed coat can cause reactions in people sensitive to poison ivy; gotu kola can cause skin sensitivity.
  • Duration and timing: take earlier in the day; do not use for more than a few weeks at a time without talking to your practitioner.
  • Age: adults only. Not for children or teenagers.
  • Contains alcohol. If you have a medical condition or take medication, consult a qualified healthcare practitioner before use. Do not use it to self-treat any medical condition - see a qualified doctor instead. Keep out of reach of children.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is Energall Tincture?
Energall is a seven-ingredient liquid blend: eleuthero root (Eleutherococcus senticosus), ginkgo leaf and ginkgo seed (Ginkgo biloba), gotu kola leaf (Centella asiatica), guarana seed (Paullinia cupana), kola nut (Cola acuminata) and red ginseng root (steamed Panax ginseng), extracted together in organic alcohol with a little vegetable glycerin and water. Two of the ingredients, guarana and kola nut, are natural sources of caffeine, so this blend contains caffeine. Each of the herbs is also sold on its own. It is a liquid herbal tincture, not a capsule. It is a botanical product and is not intended to diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any disease. Please read the safety note below - this blend is for adults only and is not suitable for everyone.
What is the difference between the tincture and the alcohol-free drops?
Both contain the same seven ingredients in the same proportions; only the extraction liquid differs. This tincture uses organic alcohol with vegetable glycerin and water - the classic method with the longest shelf life at room temperature and a bitter, earthy taste. The alcohol-free version is a glycerite made with vegetable glycerin and purified water, milder and naturally sweet, for those who avoid alcohol. Both contain caffeine from guarana and kola nut. Choose whichever suits you; the safety notes apply to both.
Does Energall contain caffeine? Why is ginkgo seed listed separately from ginkgo leaf?
Yes. Guarana seed and kola nut are among the richest natural sources of caffeine, so Energall is a caffeine-containing product and should not be combined with coffee, energy drinks or other stimulants. Ginkgo leaf and ginkgo seed come from the same tree but are different plant parts with different chemistry: the seed, known as Bai Guo in Chinese tradition, contains a compound called ginkgotoxin that can cause vomiting and seizures in excess, which is why this blend is for adults only and must be kept within the label serving. Gotu kola (Centella asiatica), despite the name, is unrelated to kola nut and contains no caffeine. Red ginseng is the steamed root of Asian ginseng, and eleuthero is a different plant of the same family, sometimes called Siberian ginseng.
How do I use Energall Tincture?
Adults only. Shake well before use. Put the number of drops shown on the label into a little water or juice and drink it, up to the frequency shown on the label. Do not exceed the label serving. Do not use it for more than a few weeks at a time without talking to your practitioner. Store in a cool, dark place with the cap tight, and keep out of reach of children.
