Dandelion (Taraxacum officinale) is a perennial of the daisy family, Asteraceae, native to Europe and Asia and now a familiar weed of lawns, meadows, and roadsides across North America and every temperate region. It forms a flat rosette of deeply toothed, lance-shaped leaves, the lion's teeth of its French-derived name, from which hollow, leafless stalks 10 to 40 centimeters tall each carry a single golden-yellow flower head that opens in the morning and closes at night. The head ripens into the round white seed clock children blow away. Every part bleeds milky latex, and the thick, dark brown taproot is bitter. We extract the dried leaf and root separately.
Tincture or alcohol-free drops?
Both start from the same dried plant material and cold maceration. The tincture uses organic alcohol
as the solvent, keeps for years and is the classic herbal form. The alcohol-free drops (glycerite) use
vegetable glycerin and purified water, taste mildly sweet and suit anyone avoiding alcohol. The amount of
dried herb per serving is printed on each label.
