Lomatium (Lomatium dissectum), the fernleaf biscuitroot, is a stout perennial of the carrot family, Apiaceae, native to the dry foothills and rocky slopes of western North America from British Columbia to California and Colorado. It grows 50-150 cm tall with large, finely dissected, fern-like leaves and umbels of small yellow or purple flowers in spring, followed by flat, winged seeds. The thick, woody taproot has a dark brown, corky bark and a strong, resinous, celery-like smell. We extract the dried root.
Tincture or alcohol-free drops?
Both start from the same dried plant material and cold maceration. The tincture uses organic alcohol
as the solvent, keeps for years and is the classic herbal form. The alcohol-free drops (glycerite) use
vegetable glycerin and purified water, taste mildly sweet and suit anyone avoiding alcohol. The amount of
dried herb per serving is printed on each label.
