About Schisandra chinensis

Schisandra (Schisandra chinensis) is the five-flavor berry, wu wei zi, a woody deciduous climber of the schisandra family, Schisandraceae, native to the forests of northeastern China, Korea, Japan and the Russian Far East. Its twining stems reach 8 meters or more, with oval, glossy, slightly toothed leaves and small, fragrant cream to pale pink flowers in late spring, with male and female usually on separate plants. The flowers develop into hanging clusters of bright red berries whose taste is said to combine sweet, sour, salty, bitter and pungent. We extract the dried berry.

Tincture or alcohol-free drops?

Both start from the same dried plant material and cold maceration. The tincture uses organic alcohol as the solvent, keeps for years and is the classic herbal form. The alcohol-free drops (glycerite) use vegetable glycerin and purified water, taste mildly sweet and suit anyone avoiding alcohol. The amount of dried herb per serving is printed on each label.
