Immunon Alcohol-Free Drops - Astragalus, Echinacea, Elderberry, Red Ginseng, Cat's Claw and Pau d'Arco Herbal Blend

This is an alcohol-free liquid extract (glycerite) of six herbs (seven plant parts) extracted together in equal parts. Immunon is the name of the blend; it is a traditional herbal product, not a capsule. It is meant for short courses and is not suitable for everyone - please read the safety information below before use.

What is in the blend

  • Astragalus root - the root of a legume of northern China, known in Chinese herbal tradition as Huang Qi.
  • Echinacea herb and root - the purple coneflower of the North American prairie; the blend uses both the flowering herb and the root.
  • Elderberry - the ripe black berry of the European elder, cooked into syrups and cordials for centuries; the extract is made from ripe berries only.
  • Red ginseng root - the steamed and dried root of Panax ginseng, the classic root of East Asian tradition.
  • Cat's claw bark - the inner bark of a woody Amazon vine named for its curved thorns.
  • Pau d'arco bark - the inner bark of a South American trumpet tree; it naturally contains lapachol, which is why it is not for use in pregnancy.

Why the alcohol-free drops

The dried herbs are extracted together in vegetable glycerin and purified water, so there is no ethanol in the bottle - the version to choose if you avoid alcohol. Glycerin gives the drops a mild, naturally sweet taste that suits the fruity elderberry and rounds off the earthy roots and barks.

What is a glycerite?

A glycerite is a liquid herbal extract made with vegetable glycerin instead of alcohol. Glycerin is a clear, naturally sweet liquid from plant oils; it extracts and preserves the water-soluble parts of the herbs. Because glycerin is a weaker preservative than alcohol, keep the bottle refrigerated after opening. The glycerin and water percentages are printed on the label.

How to use

Shake well before use. Put the number of drops shown on the label into a little water, juice or tea and drink it, up to the frequency shown on the label. Use it as a short course - up to eight weeks - and then take a break rather than using it continuously. Refrigerate after opening and use within the period printed on the label.

Drops or tincture?

If you prefer the classic alcohol-based extract with the longest shelf life at room temperature, the same six-herb blend is available as Immunon Tincture - the alcohol-based version. The herbs and proportions are identical; only the extraction liquid differs.

Important safety information - please read before use

This blend contains six herbs, several of which carry important cautions. Please read before use.

  • Immune-suppressing medication and autoimmune conditions: cat's claw, echinacea, astragalus and elderberry act on the immune system. Do not use if you have an autoimmune condition (such as lupus, rheumatoid arthritis or multiple sclerosis), have had an organ transplant, or take immunosuppressants, corticosteroids or chemotherapy.
  • Pregnancy / nursing: do not use. Pau d'arco (lapachol) is not safe in pregnancy; ginseng and astragalus are not recommended.
  • Blood clotting: cat's claw, pau d'arco and ginseng can affect bleeding or blood thinners such as warfarin. Consult your practitioner, and stop use at least two weeks before scheduled surgery.
  • Blood pressure: ginseng may raise and cat's claw may lower blood pressure. Use caution if you have high blood pressure or take blood-pressure medicine.
  • Blood sugar: ginseng may interact with diabetes medicines.
  • Ginseng: may cause sleeplessness, especially with caffeine; do not combine with MAO-inhibitor antidepressants; consult your practitioner if you have a hormone-sensitive condition.
  • Duration: use for no more than eight weeks at a time, then take a break.
  • Allergies: echinacea is a daisy-family (Asteraceae) plant - avoid if you are allergic to ragweed, daisies or chrysanthemums.
  • Age: not for children.
  • If you have a medical condition or take medication, consult a qualified healthcare practitioner before use. Do not use it to self-treat any medical condition - see a qualified doctor instead. Keep out of reach of children.

What is Immunon Alcohol-Free Drops?
Immunon is a six-herb liquid blend: astragalus root (Astragalus membranaceus), echinacea herb and root (Echinacea purpurea), elderberry (Sambucus nigra), red ginseng root (Panax ginseng), cat's claw bark (Uncaria tomentosa) and pau d'arco bark (Tabebuia impetiginosa), extracted together in vegetable glycerin and purified water, with no alcohol. It is an herbal glycerite, not a capsule. Each herb is also sold on its own; the blend combines them in equal parts. It is a botanical product and is not intended to diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any disease. Please read the safety note below: this blend is not suitable for everyone and is meant for short courses.
What is the difference between the alcohol-free drops and the tincture?
Both contain the same six herbs in the same proportions; only the extraction liquid differs. These drops are a glycerite made with vegetable glycerin and purified water - no alcohol, a milder and naturally sweet taste, best kept refrigerated after opening. The tincture uses organic alcohol with vegetable glycerin and water, the classic method with the longest shelf life at room temperature. Choose whichever suits you; the safety notes apply to both.
What is each herb in the blend?
Astragalus root is the root of Astragalus membranaceus, a legume of northern China (Huang Qi). Elderberry is the ripe black berry of Sambucus nigra, cooked into syrups and cordials in Europe for centuries; the extract is made from ripe berries. Red ginseng is the steamed root of Panax ginseng. Cat's claw is the inner bark of a woody Amazon vine, Uncaria tomentosa. Pau d'arco is the inner bark of a South American trumpet tree, Tabebuia impetiginosa, which naturally contains lapachol.
