Faced with some kind of disease, we often think about how to boost the immune system. To do this, you need to be well aware of what components are necessary for the immune system, in which products they are contained and how they affect the body. The most well-known antioxidants are vitamins A, C, E, as well as glutathione, selenium, vitamin B6. The three most important antioxidant vitamins are beta-carotene, vitamin C and vitamin E.

Astragalus membranaceus is a perennial, which is flowering from June to August, and the seeds ripen from July to September. The flowers are hermaphrodite (have both male and female organs) and are pollinated by bees, lepidoptera. A graceful, flowing plant with long stems bearing paired, pointed leaves and purple flowers, the astragalus is harvested for its roots that are white when dug out of the ground but become yellow as they are dried. Astragalus membranaceus increases the activity and the number of immune cells, boosts the response of interferon against viruses, bacteria and parasites, heightens the phagocytic activities of monocytes and macrophages, which engulfs microbes to destroy them.

Echinacea is a perennial herbaceous plant up to 70-80 (100) cm heigh with sturdy, slightly branched stems. The lower leaves are rosette, broadly oval, large, on long petioles; the upper ones are lanceolate and sessile. Ray flowers are single-row, tubular, of red, crimson, purple color. Echinacea (Echinacea Purpurea) strengthens the immune system and possesses diuretic properties, destroys some viruses and bacteria, delays the reproduction of viruses, helps the body to fight viruses and purifies tissues from affected cells, as they stimulate the production of t-lymphocytes and increase the activity of white blood cells, significantly accelerates recovery when having infectious and viral diseases, reduces the amount of nitrogen exchange products in the blood, and thus prevents the development of chronic diseases.

Ginseng has been widely used in traditional medicine since ancient times. It usually grows in the mountains and is harvested mainly for its beneficial root. The plant can reach up to more than 2 feet in height, has green leaves and clusters of red berries. The shape of its light-colored fleshy root is similar to a human body. Ginseng root contains two important health-giving substances: gintonin and ginsenosides. In combination with each other they provide a lot of essential health benefits. Ginseng (Panax Ginseng) improves overall health, strengthens the immune system, can enhance the effect of vaccinations against diseases, improves the survival of human lung epithelial cells.

Cat's Claw is a large woody vine that sometimes reaches heights of 100 feet and is native to the Amazon rainforest and other places in South and Central America. Cat's Claw got its name from the curved, claw-like thorns that grow on its stem. The bark is fissured and ranges from a yellow to yellowish-green in color. The thorny spines are woody, paired and curved like a Cat's Claw. The sap has a watery and astringent taste. The root and bark of Cat's Claw are the parts people usually use. Cat’s Claw includes six types of alkaloids. Isopteridine alkaloid has powerful stimulating properties in immune system functioning. Other alkaloids demonstrate their ability to enhance phagocytosis (the property of white blood cells to destroy bacteria, toxins, viruses). Alkaloid rincophilin has the property of preventing the formation of blood clots.

Pau d’Arco (Tabebuia Impetiginosa) has a very rich chemical composition: vitamin C, beta-carotene, vitamins B1, B2, niacin, zinc, calcium, cobalt, chromium, phosphorus, magnesium, manganese, potassium, sodium, selenium, silicon, iron, anthrachion, proteins, fats, as well as plant fiber. Calcium and iron are necessary for the body functioning and brain work. Calcium protects the intestines, forms an insoluble complex of fatty acids, and thus stops the reproduction of free radicals. Iron is essential for healthy blood, which is a major component of the immune system. Selenium increases the anti-oxydant activity of the immune system. Vitamin C and zinc are antioxidants and also protect the immune system.

Graviola (Annona Muricata) can reach 7.5—9 m high. Young shoots are pubescent. It has dark green leaves with an oval oblong shape, their surface is leathery and glossy. The length of the leaves is up to 15 cm. They have a slightly spicy smell, which is especially noticeable when rubbed. Graviola leaf is said to be high in antioxidants. Flowers are single with short pedicels, have a conical shape and consist of three internal and three external petals. The fruit is a juicy multi-leaf, the weight can be from 4.5 to 7 kilograms, and the size can be from 10 to 35 cm in length and 15 cm in width. Vitamin B1 and Zinc (both of which can be found in Graviola) can give the immune system a helping hand.
