Botanical Identity
Sinomenium acutum is a woody climbing vine of the family Menispermaceae. Its dried stem is known in traditional Chinese medicine as Qing Feng Teng; the English common name is Orient Vine (also written Orientvine or Oriental Vine, and sometimes misspelled Ovientvine). This is Sinomenium acutum, whose characteristic constituent is the alkaloid sinomenine. It is a distinct plant from Aristolochia fangchi (Guang Fang Ji), a banned aristolochic-acid herb, and from Stephania tetrandra (Han Fang Ji) and Piper kadsura (Hai Feng Teng), which we offer as separate products. This is the whole stem, not the isolated alkaloid sinomenine that is sold separately as a concentrated ingredient.

- May cause histamine-release reactions. Sinomenine can trigger the release of histamine, which in some people causes flushing, itching or skin rash (often on the head and upper body), mild swelling around the lips or eyelids, stomach upset, or headache. If any such reaction occurs, stop use. Be especially cautious if you are prone to allergies or hives.
- May affect the immune system. If you have an immune-related condition or take medication that affects immunity, consult your healthcare practitioner before use.
- Do not use during pregnancy or while nursing except under professional supervision.
- May interact with medications. If you take any medication or have a medical condition, consult your physician before use.
- Not for children. Keep out of the reach of children.
- Do not use if you are allergic to any of the ingredients. Do not exceed the suggested serving.
- This tincture contains 48% alcohol by volume; excessive consumption may impair your ability to drive or operate heavy equipment. Store in a cool, dry place.
Suggested use: Shake well before use. Take 20-30 drops (about 1 ml, one full squeeze of the dropper bulb) in 2 oz of water, starting with a smaller amount to assess tolerance, up to three times a day or as directed by a qualified practitioner. Do not exceed the suggested serving.
