- The bark naturally contains iridoids and naphthoquinones - active constituents; please see the safety notice below.
- A whole-bark liquid extract, distinct from our Kigelia Fruit and Kigelia Seed extracts.
Botanical Identity
Kigelia africana (synonym Kigelia pinnata) is a tree of the family Bignoniaceae native to Africa, popularly called the "sausage tree" for its large, heavy, sausage-shaped fruits. This product is made from the tree's BARK. The kigelia tree yields several parts that we offer as separate products - bark, seed and fruit - and they are not interchangeable; the kigelia used in skincare is usually the fruit, which is a different product. This is the whole-bark extract of Kigelia africana.
Important Safety Information - Please Read Before Use
Kigelia bark contains naturally active constituents (iridoids and naphthoquinones), and the sausage tree's fresh, raw fruit is known to be poisonous. Use kigelia only in small amounts, do not exceed the suggested serving, and use it under the guidance of a qualified practitioner. It is not intended for self-treatment or long-term use.
- Start with a small amount. Begin with about 10 drops rather than a full dropper; a larger dose may cause stomach upset.
- Do not use during pregnancy or while nursing.
- May interact with medications. If you take any medication or have a medical condition, consult your physician before use.
- Not for children. Keep out of the reach of children.
- Do not use if you are allergic to any of the ingredients. Do not exceed the suggested serving.
- This tincture contains 48% alcohol by volume; excessive consumption may impair your ability to drive or operate heavy equipment. Store in a cool, dry place.
Suggested use: Shake well before use. Begin with about 10 drops (do not start at a full 20-drop dropper) in 2 oz of water, only in small amounts and as directed by a qualified practitioner. Do not exceed the suggested serving.
