Madder root contains lucidin, which is genotoxic (it can damage DNA) and has caused cancer in animal studies; herbal use of madder root by mouth is no longer permitted in some countries, which is why we offer it strictly for external use.
- Skin: apply to intact skin only - do not use on open wounds or broken skin, and keep it away from the eyes and mucous membranes. Do a patch test first, and stop if redness, itching, or rash develops. Because this is an alcohol tincture, it may sting on sensitive skin.
- Staining: madder is a strong natural dye and can stain skin, nails, and fabric.
- Pregnancy / nursing: do not use during pregnancy or while breastfeeding.
- Contains alcohol. Do not use on infants or children. If you have a medical condition or take medication, consult a qualified healthcare practitioner before use. Do not use it to self-treat any medical condition - see a qualified doctor instead. Keep out of reach of children.
