Frequently Asked Questions about Mango Ginger Extract
What is Mango Ginger (Curcuma amada) root extract?
Mango Ginger is a liquid extract of the dried root of Curcuma amada, an aromatic rhizome in the ginger and turmeric family (Zingiberaceae). It is native to India and cultivated across South and Southeast Asia, where the fresh root is a familiar kitchen spice used in pickles, chutneys and relishes. Its name comes from a distinctive quality: freshly cut, the root looks much like common ginger but smells and tastes of raw green mango rather than being pungent. Our product is a concentrated liquid extract made from the dried root, prepared to carry the root's natural aromatic character. This tincture is extracted with organic alcohol at 48% by volume. It is a whole-root liquid extract carrying the plant's natural spectrum of constituents, not an isolated or standardized single-compound product, and it is meant to be taken internally by the drop. Each batch is gluten free and made in an FDA registered facility from raw material sourced in India.
What is the difference between the tincture and alcohol-free versions?
Both are liquid extracts of the same dried Curcuma amada root; only the solvent differs. This tincture uses organic alcohol at 48% by volume with vegetable glycerin and water, the classic conventional method that fully draws out the aromatic oils of the root and gives a long shelf life. The alcohol-free version is a glycerite made with vegetable glycerin and crystal clear water instead, giving a naturally mild, slightly sweet taste that suits those who prefer to avoid alcohol. Choose the tincture for a traditional alcohol-extracted format; choose the glycerite if you prefer no alcohol. The botanical inside is identical.
Is Mango Ginger the same as turmeric, white turmeric or zedoary?
No, and this is worth clarifying because several members of the genus Curcuma share folk names. Mango Ginger is Curcuma amada, prized specifically for its raw-mango aroma. Turmeric is a different species, Curcuma longa, the bright orange culinary rhizome that gives curry its color. Zedoary is yet another species, Curcuma zedoaria, which has a bitter, camphor-like taste; in many regions zedoary is the plant actually meant by the folk names "white turmeric" and "amba haldi," so those names are not reliable labels for mango ginger. We sell zedoary separately under its Chinese name E Zhu, and we sell another relative, Curcuma aromatica, as Yu Jin. What ties this product to Curcuma amada is the mango scent of the fresh root, not any of those overlapping common names. When you want the mango-scented ginger relative, look for the botanical name Curcuma amada and the plant part - dried root - which is exactly how we label this extract so there is no confusion with turmeric, zedoary or yu jin.
How do I use Mango Ginger liquid extract?
Shake well before use. The suggested serving for adults is 20 to 30 drops (approximately 1 ml, one full squeeze of the dropper) in 2 oz of water or juice, up to a few times daily, or as directed by your healthcare practitioner. Because this is an alcohol tincture, adding it to a little water softens the taste. Drink the entire contents. Do not exceed the suggested serving. Store in a cool, dry place away from direct light.
Is Mango Ginger extract right for everyone? Safety and storage.
Mango Ginger is used as a food spice and is generally well tolerated, but a concentrated extract should not be taken above the suggested serving. This tincture contains 48% alcohol by volume and is not suitable if you avoid alcohol. People who are sensitive to other members of the ginger family, such as ginger or turmeric, may react to it. Like other ginger relatives it may add to the effect of blood-thinning or antiplatelet medication, and it can stimulate the flow of bile, so it is sensible to ask a qualified healthcare practitioner before use if you take such medication, have gallstones or a bile-duct problem, are pregnant or nursing. Keep out of reach of children. Store this tincture in a cool, dark place. These statements have not been evaluated by the Food and Drug Administration. This product is not intended to diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any disease.

Our master herbalists analyze each batch and adjust extraction parameters as needed, ensuring consistent quality despite natural variations in botanical sources.
The result is a potent, stable liquid extract that captures the full spectrum of the botanical's benefits.
