Glycerites can also be administered directly into the mouth without the assistance of water however some glycerites are unpalatable which is why most people prefer to dilute them into a beverage.

What is Strawberry Leaf (Fragaria vesca) extract?
This is an extract of the leaf of Fragaria vesca, the wild strawberry, also called the woodland or alpine strawberry - a low-growing perennial of the rose family (Rosaceae) found along woodland edges across Europe and Asia. It is not the same plant as the large garden strawberry sold in shops, which is Fragaria x ananassa. The part used here is the leaf, not the fruit; this is not a berry extract and not a strawberry flavouring. The leaf is naturally rich in tannins and contains vitamin C - these are simply constituents of the raw material - and it has a long history of use as a herbal tea. Our extract is offered in two forms, an alcohol-free glycerite and a traditional alcohol-based tincture, both from ethically sourced, wild harvested material. This is a whole-leaf liquid extract carrying the plant's natural spectrum of constituents, not an isolated compound, and we label it clearly by botanical name and plant part.
What is the difference between the alcohol-free and tincture versions?
Both are liquid extracts of the same Fragaria vesca leaf; only the solvent differs. The alcohol-free version is a glycerite made with vegetable glycerin and purified water, suited to those who avoid alcohol. The tincture uses alcohol as the traditional solvent, together with vegetable glycerin and water. Both deliver the leaf's constituents in a convenient liquid you take by the drop. Choose the glycerite if you prefer no alcohol; choose the tincture for a classic alcohol-extracted format with a longer shelf life.
Is this the strawberry fruit, and which strawberry is it?
Two clarifications, and the first is the important one. This product is the leaf. It is not strawberry fruit, not strawberry juice, not a berry powder and not a strawberry flavouring - it is a liquid extract of the dried leaf that you take by the drop. If you are looking for the fruit or the flavour, this is not that item. Second, the species: our plant is Fragaria vesca, the wild strawberry, also known as the woodland or alpine strawberry. That is a different species from Fragaria x ananassa, the large modern garden strawberry grown commercially and sold in supermarkets. Both belong to the genus Fragaria, but they are different plants, and this leaf comes from the wild species. Worth noting too that a general search for wild strawberry will mostly bring up plant identification, foraging and gardening material rather than herbal products. We label the botanical name (Fragaria vesca) and plant part (leaf) on every page so there is no confusion.
How do I use Strawberry Leaf liquid extract?
Shake well before use. Adults take 20-30 drops (about 1 ml, one full squeeze of the dropper bulb) in 2 oz of water, tea, or juice, up to 3 times daily, or as directed by your practitioner. Drink the entire contents. Do not exceed the suggested serving.
Is Strawberry Leaf extract right for everyone? Safety and storage.
Strawberry leaf is generally well tolerated, but it is not right for everyone. The leaf is rich in tannins, and a concentrated liquid extract is more concentrated than a cup of leaf tea, so taking more than the suggested serving may cause stomach upset. Tannins can also reduce the absorption of iron and some other minerals, so if you take an iron supplement or a mineral-rich meal, it is sensible to separate them from this extract by an hour or two. Strawberry is a well-known food allergen; although the leaf differs from the fruit in its allergen profile, anyone who reacts to strawberries, or who has birch-pollen related allergy, should be cautious. If you are pregnant or nursing, take any medication, or have a medical condition, talk with a qualified healthcare practitioner before use. Keep out of reach of children, and do not exceed the suggested serving. This alcohol-free glycerite is best refrigerated after opening.
