What is the difference between the tincture and alcohol-free versions?
Both are liquid extracts of the same Belamcanda chinensis (Iris domestica) rhizome; only the solvent differs. This tincture uses organic alcohol at 48% by volume with vegetable glycerin and water, the classic conventional method that yields a super-concentrated extract with a long shelf life. The alcohol-free version is a glycerite made with vegetable glycerin and crystal clear water instead, for those who prefer to avoid alcohol. Choose the tincture for a traditional alcohol-extracted format; choose the glycerite if you prefer no alcohol. The botanical inside is identical. Is this the same as the blackberry lily grown in gardens?
It is the same plant species - Belamcanda chinensis, now botanically Iris domestica, the blackberry lily (also called leopard lily) - but this is the medicinal RHIZOME preparation, not a garden plant or an ornamental flower. The blackberry lily is popular in gardens for its orange, red-spotted flowers and its clusters of shiny black seeds that look like a blackberry, but the whole plant, and especially the raw plant, is considered poisonous to eat. In traditional Chinese herbalism only the rhizome is used, in controlled amounts, as the herb She Gan. Our product is a liquid extract of that rhizome, labeled by botanical name and plant part; if you are looking for seeds or plants for the garden, this is not that, and none of the plant should be eaten casually.
