Frequently Asked Questions about Bai Jiang Cao Extract
What is Bai Jiang Cao / Field Pennycress (Thlaspi arvense) herb extract?
The botanical name on our label is Thlaspi arvense, the field pennycress, a plant of the mustard family (Brassicaceae) known in Chinese tradition as Xi Ming; the dried herb is known as Herba Thlaspeos. It is sold here under the trade name "Bai Jiang Cao." This tincture is an alcohol extract of the dried herb. One important identity point: authentic Bai Jiang Cao is actually a different plant (Patrinia); see the question below. It is generally a mild, food-familiar plant, but as a precaution it is best avoided in pregnancy. Please read the safety notes below.
What is the difference between the tincture and alcohol-free versions?
Both are liquid extracts of the same Thlaspi arvense herb; only the solvent differs. This tincture uses organic alcohol with vegetable glycerin and water, the classic conventional method that yields a concentrated extract with a long shelf life. The alcohol-free version is a glycerite made with vegetable glycerin and purified water instead, for those who prefer to avoid alcohol. Choose the tincture for a traditional alcohol-extracted format; choose the glycerite if you prefer no alcohol. The herb inside is identical, and the same safety notes apply to both.
Is this the "real" Bai Jiang Cao? A note on identity.
This deserves a clear answer. In authentic Chinese medicine, "Bai Jiang Cao" refers to Patrinia (Patrinia scabiosifolia or Patrinia villosa), of the Caprifoliaceae family - known as Herba Patriniae. The plant on our label is Thlaspi arvense (field pennycress), of the mustard family (Brassicaceae), whose own traditional Chinese name is Xi Ming. Thlaspi arvense is widely traded under the "Bai Jiang Cao" name as a substitute, which is why it appears here that way, but botanically it is a different plant from genuine Patrinia. If you specifically need authentic Patrinia Bai Jiang Cao, this is not that plant. We label the botanical name clearly so you know exactly what you are getting: Thlaspi arvense.
How do I use Bai Jiang Cao / Field Pennycress liquid extract?
Shake well first. A typical amount is 20 to 30 drops in 2 oz of water, tea, or juice, up to three times a day, or as directed by your healthcare practitioner. Do not exceed the suggested serving. Because this is an alcohol tincture, adding it to water softens the taste. Keep to short-term use. Store in a cool, dry place away from direct light, and shake before each use.
Is Bai Jiang Cao / Field Pennycress right for everyone? Safety information.

Medications: if you take any medication or have a medical condition, consult a qualified healthcare practitioner before use.
