Circulation Support Alcohol-Free Drops
This is an alcohol-free liquid extract (glycerite) of three herbs extracted together in equal parts: a kitchen bulb, the fan-shaped leaf of an ancient tree and a Siberian forest root. Each is also sold on its own. It is a traditional herbal product - two of its herbs affect blood clotting, so please read the safety information below before use.
- Garlic, bulb - Allium sativum bulb (Amaryllidaceae)
- Ginkgo, leaf - Ginkgo biloba leaf (Ginkgoaceae)
- Eleuthero, root - Eleutherococcus senticosus root (Araliaceae)

What is in the blend
- Garlic bulb - the dried bulb of Allium sativum, the same species as culinary garlic, grown for thousands of years from Central Asia to the Mediterranean; its pungent sulfur compounds are what you smell when a clove is crushed.
- Ginkgo leaf - the two-lobed, fan-shaped leaf of Ginkgo biloba, the last survivor of a tree lineage older than the dinosaurs, now planted along city streets worldwide. The leaf, not the seed, is used here.
- Eleuthero root (Ci Wu Jia) - the root of a thorny shrub of the ivy family from the forests of Siberia and northeast Asia. Older books call it Siberian ginseng, although it is not a true ginseng.
Why the alcohol-free drops
The three dried herbs are extracted together in vegetable glycerin and purified water, so there is no ethanol in the bottle - the version to choose if you avoid alcohol. Glycerin gives the drops a mild, naturally sweet taste that softens the pungency of garlic.
What is a glycerite?
A glycerite is a liquid herbal extract made with vegetable glycerin instead of alcohol. Glycerin is a clear, naturally sweet liquid from plant oils; it extracts and preserves the water-soluble parts of the herbs. Because glycerin is a weaker preservative than alcohol, keep the bottle refrigerated after opening. The glycerin and water percentages are printed on the label.
How to use
Shake well before use. Put the number of drops shown on the label into a little water, juice or tea and drink it, up to the frequency shown on the label. Do not exceed the label serving. Eleuthero can be mildly stimulating, so take the blend earlier in the day. Refrigerate after opening and use within the period printed on the label.
Drops or tincture?
If you prefer the classic alcohol-based extract with the longest shelf life at room temperature, the same three-herb blend is available as Circulation Support Tincture - the alcohol-based version. The herbs and proportions are identical; only the extraction liquid differs.
Important safety information - please read before use
Two of the herbs in this blend slow blood clotting. Please read before use.
- Bleeding and surgery: both garlic and ginkgo slow blood clotting, and together the effect adds up. Do not combine with warfarin, aspirin, clopidogrel or other anticoagulant or antiplatelet drugs without your doctor. Stop use at least two weeks before surgery or dental work.
- Pregnancy / nursing: do not use.
- Blood pressure and heart medication: garlic may lower blood pressure while eleuthero may raise it, and eleuthero may interact with digoxin. Consult your doctor if you take heart or blood-pressure medication.
- Blood sugar: garlic may lower blood sugar - monitor if you take diabetes medication.
- HIV medicines: garlic can reduce the effect of some HIV medicines such as saquinavir.
- Seizures: avoid ginkgo if you have epilepsy or a seizure disorder.
- Sleep: eleuthero can be stimulating - take the blend earlier in the day.
- Allergies: do not use if you are allergic to garlic or onions (Allium).
- See a doctor: this blend is not a replacement for any prescribed medication.
- Age: not for children.
