Eucalyptus and Spearmint Alcohol-Free Drops
This is an alcohol-free liquid extract (glycerite) of two aromatic leaves extracted together in equal parts and named for its ingredients: the sickle-shaped leaf of the Australian blue gum and the sweet leaf of garden spearmint. Both are also sold on their own. It is a traditional herbal product for adults only - please read the safety information below before use.
- Eucalyptus, leaf - Eucalyptus globulus leaf (Myrtaceae) - whole-leaf extract, not the essential oil
- Spearmint, leaf - Mentha spicata leaf (Lamiaceae)

What is in the blend
- Eucalyptus leaf - the long, blue-grey, sickle-shaped leaf of the Tasmanian blue gum, a fast-growing tree planted around the world; the dried leaf is extracted whole here, which is a very different thing from the distilled essential oil. The leaf carries cineole, the aromatic compound of eucalyptus, which is why this blend is for adults only.
- Spearmint leaf - the bright green, pointed leaf of the sweet garden mint, a true species (unlike peppermint, which is a hybrid) whose mild scent comes from carvone rather than menthol; it is the mint of mint sauce and chewing gum.
Why the alcohol-free drops
The two dried leaves are extracted together in vegetable glycerin and purified water, so there is no ethanol in the bottle - the version to choose if you avoid alcohol. Glycerin gives the drops a mild, naturally sweet taste that pairs well with the cool, minty note of the leaves.
What is a glycerite?
A glycerite is a liquid herbal extract made with vegetable glycerin instead of alcohol. Glycerin is a clear, naturally sweet liquid from plant oils; it extracts and preserves the water-soluble parts of the herbs. Because glycerin is a weaker preservative than alcohol, keep the bottle refrigerated after opening. The glycerin and water percentages are printed on the label.
How to use
Shake well before use. Put the number of drops shown on the label into a little water, juice or tea and drink it, up to the frequency shown on the label. Do not exceed the label serving, and do not use it for long periods without a practitioner. Refrigerate after opening and use within the period printed on the label.
Drops or tincture?
If you prefer the classic alcohol-based extract with the longest shelf life at room temperature, the same two-leaf blend is available as Eucalyptus and Spearmint Tincture - the alcohol-based version. The leaves and proportions are identical; only the extraction liquid differs.

- Children: eucalyptus leaf contains cineole, which has caused seizures and drowsiness in children even in small amounts. This blend is for adults only; never give it to children.
- Seizure disorders: do not use if you have a history of seizures.
- Do not exceed the label serving: too much eucalyptus can cause nausea, dizziness or drowsiness. Stop and seek medical help if these occur.
- Hormones: spearmint can lower androgen (testosterone) levels. Consult your doctor before use if you have a hormone-sensitive condition, low testosterone, or are trying to conceive.
- Kidneys and liver: large amounts of spearmint may burden the kidneys and liver. Do not use if you have kidney or liver disease.
- Medicines: spearmint may change how the liver processes some drugs. Ask your pharmacist if you take prescription medicines.
- Pregnancy / nursing: do not use.
- Allergies: spearmint is a mint-family (Lamiaceae) plant; eucalyptus is a myrtle-family (Myrtaceae) plant.
