About Ocimum tenuiflorum

Holy Basil (Ocimum tenuiflorum, also written Ocimum sanctum), the tulsi of India, is an aromatic perennial of the mint family, Lamiaceae, native to the Indian subcontinent and grown through Southeast Asia and Australia. It forms a bushy plant 30-60 cm tall with hairy square stems, oval, toothed leaves that may be green or purple, and slender spikes of small lilac flowers. The leaves smell of clove and pepper with a hint of lemon, and the plant is grown in courtyards and temple gardens across India. We extract the dried leaf.

Tincture or alcohol-free drops?

Both start from the same dried plant material and cold maceration. The tincture uses organic alcohol as the solvent, keeps for years and is the classic herbal form. The alcohol-free drops (glycerite) use vegetable glycerin and purified water, taste mildly sweet and suit anyone avoiding alcohol. The amount of dried herb per serving is printed on each label.
