About Urtica dioica

Stinging Nettle (Urtica dioica) is a vigorous perennial of the nettle family, Urticaceae, native to Europe, Asia and North Africa and widespread across North America along stream banks, hedgerows and rich waste ground. It spreads by yellow creeping rhizomes into dense stands 1 to 2 meters tall, with square stems and opposite, heart-shaped, coarsely toothed leaves covered in stinging hairs that release formic acid and histamine when touched. Tiny greenish flowers hang in catkin-like clusters, with male and female usually on separate plants. We extract the dried leaf and root separately.

Tincture or alcohol-free drops?

Both start from the same dried plant material and cold maceration. The tincture uses organic alcohol as the solvent, keeps for years and is the classic herbal form. The alcohol-free drops (glycerite) use vegetable glycerin and purified water, taste mildly sweet and suit anyone avoiding alcohol. The amount of dried herb per serving is printed on each label.
