About Vitex agnus-castus

Vitex (Vitex agnus-castus) is chaste tree or chasteberry, a deciduous shrub of the mint family, Lamiaceae, native to the Mediterranean and western Asia, where it grows along stream beds and coasts, and planted as an ornamental across the southern United States. It reaches 3 to 5 meters with grey-felted stems and palmate, aromatic leaves of five to seven narrow leaflets, and in late summer carries long, slender spikes of fragrant lilac to blue flowers. The small, hard, grey-brown fruit resemble peppercorns and have a peppery, slightly camphorous taste. We extract the dried berry.

Tincture or alcohol-free drops?

Both start from the same dried plant material and cold maceration. The tincture uses organic alcohol as the solvent, keeps for years and is the classic herbal form. The alcohol-free drops (glycerite) use vegetable glycerin and purified water, taste mildly sweet and suit anyone avoiding alcohol. The amount of dried herb per serving is printed on each label.
