Spiny Zizyphus (Ziziphus Spina-Christi) is an evergreen tropical or subtropical shrub or tree that belongs to the Rhamnacea. It originates from tropical and northern Africa, Western and Southern Asia. The plant can reach up to 20 m in height and has a diameter of about 60 cm. It is very branched and has a dense crown. The trunk is twisted. The bark is pale grey and cracked. The thorns usually grow in pairs: one is straight and the other is curved. The ovate-lanceolate leaves are simple with entire margin. The upper side is smooth, but the underside is pubescent. The subsessile flowers grow in compound umbels. They usually have 5 petals. The fruit is about 1 cm across.*
