Bronchial Support Tincture
This is an alcohol-based liquid extract (tincture) of three herbs extracted together: the flowering herb of the purple coneflower, the garlic bulb, and the dark root of a South African geranium known as umckaloabo. Each is also sold on its own. It is a traditional herbal product with several important cautions - please read the safety information below before use.

- Umckaloabo, root - Pelargonium sidoides root (Geraniaceae)

What is in the blend
- Echinacea herb - the leaf, stem and drooping pink-petaled flower of the purple coneflower of the North American prairie, gathered in bloom. The root of the same plant is a separate preparation, used in our Ginseng and Echinacea blend.
- Garlic bulb - the familiar kitchen bulb, cultivated for at least five thousand years; the dried clove is used here.
- Umckaloabo root - the thick, dark, tuberous root of Pelargonium sidoides, a small wild geranium with maroon flowers from the grasslands of South Africa and Lesotho. The name comes from Zulu; it is also called South African geranium, and it is a different plant from the scented pelargoniums of window boxes.
Why a tincture
The three dried herbs are macerated together in organic alcohol with a little vegetable glycerin and water - the classic herbal method. A tincture keeps for years at room temperature in a cool, dark place, has a pungent, garlicky, slightly astringent taste, and a few drops disappear in a glass of water or juice. A serving of 20 to 30 drops is roughly 1 ml of liquid, so the amount of alcohol per serving is small.
How to use
Shake well before use. Put the number of drops shown on the label into a little water or juice and drink it, up to the frequency shown on the label. Do not exceed the label serving. Do not use continuously for more than eight weeks without a practitioner. Store in a cool, dark place with the cap tight.
Tincture or drops?
If you avoid alcohol or prefer a milder taste, the same three-herb blend is available as Bronchial Support Alcohol-Free Drops - the glycerite version. The herbs and proportions are identical; only the extraction liquid differs.
Important safety information - please read before use
Echinacea and umckaloabo are unsuitable with immunosuppressant medicines, garlic affects blood clotting, and the blend is not for pregnancy. Please read before use.
- Autoimmune conditions and immunosuppressants: echinacea and umckaloabo can stimulate the immune system. Do not use if you have an autoimmune condition, multiple sclerosis, tuberculosis or HIV, or if you take immunosuppressant medicines, including after a transplant.
- Bleeding and surgery: garlic slows blood clotting. Do not combine with blood thinners or aspirin without medical advice, and stop use at least two weeks before surgery. Umckaloabo contains coumarins, so consult your doctor if you take anticoagulants.
- HIV medicines: garlic can lower the levels of protease inhibitors such as saquinavir.
- Pregnancy / nursing: do not use.
- Allergies: echinacea is a daisy-family (Asteraceae) plant. Avoid if you are allergic to ragweed, chrysanthemums, marigolds or daisies.
- Blood pressure and blood sugar: garlic can lower both. Use caution with related medication.
- Stop use if you develop a rash or stomach upset.
- Age and duration: not for children. Do not use continuously for more than eight weeks.
- Contains alcohol. If you have a medical condition or take medication, consult a qualified healthcare practitioner before use. Do not use it to self-treat any medical condition - see a qualified doctor instead. Keep out of reach of children.
