About Matricaria recutita

Chamomile (Matricaria chamomilla, also written Matricaria recutita), the German or Hungarian chamomile, is an annual of the daisy family, Asteraceae, native to southern and eastern Europe and western Asia and naturalized in fields and waste ground across Europe and North America. It grows 15 to 60 centimeters with smooth, branching stems and finely divided, thread-like leaves, and from late spring carries many small daisy-like heads with white rays around a yellow center; the center is a hollow cone, which separates it from Roman chamomile and the scentless mayweeds. The flowers smell sweetly of apple, and the dried heads make the familiar golden tea. We extract the dried flower.

Tincture or alcohol-free drops?

Both start from the same dried plant material and cold maceration. The tincture uses organic alcohol as the solvent, keeps for years and is the classic herbal form. The alcohol-free drops (glycerite) use vegetable glycerin and purified water, taste mildly sweet and suit anyone avoiding alcohol. The amount of dried herb per serving is printed on each label.
