Ginger (Zingiber officinale) is a rhizomatous perennial of the ginger family, Zingiberaceae, native to tropical Southeast Asia and cultivated across the tropics, with India and China as the largest producers. Reed-like shoots to 1 m carry narrow, lance-shaped leaves, and the rare flowers appear on separate stalks in yellow-green cones with purple lips. The knobby, pale rhizome is fibrous and juicy, with a hot, pungent taste and a lemony, spicy scent from gingerols and zingiberene. We extract the dried root.
Tincture or alcohol-free drops?
Both start from the same dried plant material and cold maceration. The tincture uses organic alcohol
as the solvent, keeps for years and is the classic herbal form. The alcohol-free drops (glycerite) use
vegetable glycerin and purified water, taste mildly sweet and suit anyone avoiding alcohol. The amount of
dried herb per serving is printed on each label.
