Red Ginseng (Panax ginseng) is Asian ginseng, a slow-growing perennial of the ivy family, Araliaceae, native to the mountain forests of northeastern China, Korea and the Russian Far East and cultivated mainly in Korea and China. A single stem 30 to 60 cm tall carries a whorl of palmate leaves with five toothed leaflets, a small umbel of greenish flowers and a cluster of bright red berries. The fleshy, forked, man-shaped root is the harvested part; "red" ginseng is root that has been steamed before drying, which turns it amber-red and translucent. We extract the dried root.
Tincture or alcohol-free drops?
Both start from the same dried plant material and cold maceration. The tincture uses organic alcohol
as the solvent, keeps for years and is the classic herbal form. The alcohol-free drops (glycerite) use
vegetable glycerin and purified water, taste mildly sweet and suit anyone avoiding alcohol. The amount of
dried herb per serving is printed on each label.
