About Curcuma longa

Turmeric (Curcuma longa) is a rhizomatous perennial of the ginger family, Zingiberaceae, native to the Indian subcontinent and Southeast Asia and cultivated across the tropics, with India producing most of the world's crop. It grows about 1 meter tall with large, oblong, bright green leaves on long sheathing stalks and a cone-like spike of pale yellow flowers set among greenish-white and pink bracts. The branching rhizome is brown-skinned and brilliant orange inside, with an earthy, slightly bitter scent, and when dried and ground is the spice that colors curry powder yellow. We extract the dried rhizome.

Tincture or alcohol-free drops?

Both start from the same dried plant material and cold maceration. The tincture uses organic alcohol as the solvent, keeps for years and is the classic herbal form. The alcohol-free drops (glycerite) use vegetable glycerin and purified water, taste mildly sweet and suit anyone avoiding alcohol. The amount of dried herb per serving is printed on each label.
