About Crataegus laevigata

Hawthorn (Crataegus laevigata), the Midland hawthorn, is a thorny deciduous shrub or small tree of the rose family, Rosaceae, native to western and central Europe. It grows 6-10 m with shallowly lobed, glossy leaves, stout thorns and clusters of white, scented flowers in May that are red or pink in garden forms. The small red haws hold two or three seeds and have a mealy, mildly sweet-sour taste. We extract the dried berry, and the dried leaf and flower, separately.

Tincture or alcohol-free drops?

Both start from the same dried plant material and cold maceration. The tincture uses organic alcohol as the solvent, keeps for years and is the classic herbal form. The alcohol-free drops (glycerite) use vegetable glycerin and purified water, taste mildly sweet and suit anyone avoiding alcohol. The amount of dried herb per serving is printed on each label.
