About Eschscholzia californica

California Poppy (Eschscholzia californica) is an annual or short-lived perennial of the poppy family, Papaveraceae, native to grasslands and open slopes from southern Oregon through California to Baja California, and the state flower of California since 1903. It grows 20 to 60 centimeters with finely divided, blue-green, fern-like leaves and silky, cup-shaped flowers 5 to 8 centimeters across in glowing orange or yellow, each with four petals that close at night and in cloudy weather. The bud wears a pointed green cap that pops off as the flower opens, and the slender pods split to throw out tiny grey-brown seeds. We extract the dried aerial parts and seed separately.

Tincture or alcohol-free drops?

Both start from the same dried plant material and cold maceration. The tincture uses organic alcohol as the solvent, keeps for years and is the classic herbal form. The alcohol-free drops (glycerite) use vegetable glycerin and purified water, taste mildly sweet and suit anyone avoiding alcohol. The amount of dried herb per serving is printed on each label.
